These "Would You Rather" journal prompts invite kids to make lists, write stories, or explain their choices. Fun for the whole family!

Would You Rather questions, whether silly or serious, can be fun for the whole family!

Instead of prompting the typical short answer, however, these 10 Would You Rather journal prompts invite kids to make lists, write stories, or explain their choices.

Would you rather pick one now, or wait until later?

1. Heads Up!

Would you rather become completely bald or grow lettuce on your head? Make a list of ways you will make the best of your strange situation.

2. Swim or Soar?

Would you rather be an otter or an eagle? Once you have made your choice, write a paragraph from your point of view describing some things you did today.

3. Food for Thought

What are your five favorite foods? Would you rather not be allowed to eat these five foods for a year or be allowed to eat only your five favorite foods for a year? Explain your decision.

4. Tough Sacrifice

Would you rather go without video games or dessert for a month? Explain your choice, and tell what you would do instead.

5. Adventure Awaits

Would you rather drive a race car or pilot an airplane? Write a story in which you have an adventure.

6. Time Traveler

You have been awarded one trip through time. Would you rather go back in time to meet your ancestors or go into the future to meet your grandchildren? Make a list of 5 questions you would ask them.

7. Je m’appelle Dr. Doolittle

Would you rather be able to speak 10 foreign languages or talk to animals? What would you do with your extraordinary skills?

8. Dollar Dilemma

Would you rather have $500 to spend on yourself or $5000 to give away? Depending on your answer, make a list of 10 things you would do with the money.

9. Freezing Hot

Would you rather wear a swimsuit in a snowstorm or a snowsuit in the desert heat? Other than removing your suit, what could you do to become more comfortable? Write down your ideas.

10. Do I Want a Redo?

Would you rather wake up to find that you’re 7 years younger or 7 years older? Give three reasons for your answer.

Used it with my Junior High Sunday School in tandem with a similar activity re: the 10 Plagues. It went so well, I used it with my 7th graders in my school setting. This is a great utility in any setting I believe. I will use it next with the staff when it is my turn to do a meeting opener.

So many fun ways to use the prompts! I love the idea of a staff meeting opener. Thanks for sharing your experience, Edward.
