4 persuasive writing prompts for high school homeschool teens

by | Sep 5, 2018 | High school, Writing & Journal Prompts

These persuasive writing prompts for high school encourage teens to write convincing arguments on both fun and serious topics.

Here are four fun persuasive writing prompts for high school students. Will your homeschool teens persuade you to let them own a strange pet? Can they convince Grandpa to buy an iPad? Could they influence the future of space exploration?

Invite your teens to choose their favorite persuasive essay prompt and develop their most convincing persuasive arguments

1. Peculiar Pets

You’ve always wanted a pet! The local pet store has received a shipment of unusual animals, including a hedgehog, penguin, skunk, tarantula, and kangaroo. Write a letter in which you persuade your parents that you’re mature enough to own one of these animals. Use three strong arguments to convince them that you will properly feed and care for your new pet.

2. Thoroughly Modern Grandma

Do you know a grandparent or elderly neighbor who still doesn’t use modern technology? Write a letter convincing them to get a computer, e-reader, or smartphone. Considering their interests, give them at least three reasons or benefits for owning and using such a device.

3. Where No Man Has Gone Before

You are a famous astronaut who has journeyed to the moon, Mars, and beyond. From your point of view, write a persuasive essay explaining why the United States should invest more time, money, and effort to explore the reaches of outer space. Use specific reasons and examples to explain your position.

4. Park It Here

Funds have dried up, and the city council has decided to close the neighborhood parks. Write a letter to the city council urging them to reverse their decision. List at least three reasons why you think the parks should remain open, supporting each of these reasons with examples, facts, or logic.
